Default Close call in Sy #1907...

I just went to Sylvan Lake and picked up one of the Syclones to bring it to our new acreage in Bentley.
The truck has been stored indoors since last season.

I was driving it pretty calmly, keeping an eye on all the vitals and enjoying the truck.

After 20 minutes of cruising I felt comfortable that the truck had weathered its storage well and decided to open it up.

I gradually brought the boost up at 3/4 throttle (the truck is limited to 7-8 psi the first time that is sees boost after starting) I was watching the boost gauge and was surprised to see it run right up past 8psi and up to 15psi before I let off.

I didn't think much of it, I figured that I must have inadvertently hit boost earlier in the drive and the boost limit was back up to the normal limit of 14.7psi.

I rolled into the boost in 3rd gear on the highway and enjoyed the squashed-back-into-the-seat pull that these trucks are famous for. I watched the gauge quickly rise to 15psi and rocketed quickly to 23+psi. ( Approx. I was too busy getting out of the throttle to notice where it wound up)

I guess that it is a good thing that I had a half tank of c-16 left in it from the Syty Nationals last year....

I finished the drive home and checked everything out. Boost solenoid was ok, all visible vacuum lines intact etc.

In the end the wastegate arm had seized up over winter and I had to wiggle it back and forth a few times to break it loose.

I took it out for a few datamaster runs and solved the few glitches that always pop up on these things when they sit, and am pretty much ready for the 4 hour cruise to Street Wheelers in Lethbridge this weekend.

My truck will be the one at Street Wheelers with the bent front bumper and the guy with the big grin behind the wheel.

    See you there.
    Gord

But, I think what really needs to be discussed here is that it hit 23+psi and didn't blow...Sooo crank up the boost and report back!
Officer, I can't shut the car off right now. I need to turbo time this shit, it's probably fuckin' glowing.

Yeah, no more high boost stuff for me until the Syty Nats in September.

I want to see if I can give Cam a run for his money this year.

Well this was at the Streetwheelers 100 footer in Lethbridge after a 4 hour drive.

I was in Class 4 which had some pretty crazy cars in it.

I wound up with a 2.6 second 100ft time which I thought was pretty good for a stockish truck.

No man, you still have the title at 12.7. What are you doing to the truck this year? Stock rebuild?

    WHAT!? Awesome!

    Glad to hear Cam.

....Wait, that means you are going for all of the Performance trophies as well as the Aesthetics awards now.

Maybe I should buy Tonys Red/red and clone your truck...even down to the custom rear glass prop-stick. (Copyright infringement is the sincerest form of flattery)
