  1. Default Did a little experiment... How fast will a ported IHI go in 3400 lb TC...

Ok, I upgraded from the hybird turbo I had when the car went 12.20 @ 113 to a much larger unit.. capable of 53lb/min with a .63 stg III tubine. Unfortunately it had a V trim compressor wheel which ended up being a WOT surge monster... no matter what I did... I had sold my 12.20 hybrid already.. so.. I pulled this bigger turbo off.. not sure where to go next.... I had also just plated, insured, bought fuel blah blah, so I wanted a solution to just get the car up and running so I got a hold of a local guy, and picked up a very cheap but good IHI. I then did this to it:

I was lacking a stock down pipe andmybud Chris came down with one, and welded a WB02 bung in it for me, and we swapped in some stock brown tops [stock vam again too] I borrowed from him while I was putting that on.. Prior Ihad 55 lb seimens and a vam modded with tightened spring etc]

Then we drove the car to high speed ferry, boated it to Zimbabwe and did some tests. I must say I was surprised, and there is a bit more left in a 3" d/p, some timing, and removing the air filter from the vam, and cooler weather.. plus there's my buddy for the ridealongs, and the seats will coming out at the track LOL, to that is a 300 pound loss.

    Anyways, vidssss.. lol.

    Walk around....

Testing 123.... spiking to 24 psi settling in around 22 psi.. and 11.8:1. Woot. We were really clipping here! I didn't expect the upper 3rd n 4rth pull it has..

Nuther pull.. Speedo is off about 10 KM ahead cause of the 3.73s.

Best 100 bucks I ever spent rofl. Gonna run it as soon as I can and see what it runs. I want to add a 3' downpipe because I feel like it's leaving a little on the table still. Gotta admit I can stop grinning

    Fast forward two weeks.....

I DID get a 3" down pipe made that was run open and dumped under pass front floor lol.. Car ran awesome, I wasn't really sure what to expect as if felt fast but we all know how but dyno works.... Car was only making 19 psi today, base fuel press at 53 psi hose off!!!, a/f ratio was 11.8 ish, timing locked at 25*. Started out the day hot and humid as fack.... started to cool off later but was damp and foggy...

Car cools down. At this point i am done, im fighting my ass of for these passes, Chris has had a shot...but is over there playing with tire pressure on a mission. it was very impressive the determination. He is the man who piloted the fastest [??] IHI powered TC in all of mankind to its new best... Mr Seahag. roflmao
    1.69, 8.10 @ 84.44, 12.67 @ 106.44 DAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMNNNNN man. Funniest part "no no, I don't powershift..." have a listen to 3-4 lol...

So basically, I do honestly think there is a 12.50 or maybe a high 12.40 in here with some track prep [there was NONE] and a couple mid low 1.60s... once the cool temps came around she really started picking up!!! Car launched on the last run and looked like it was on a bouncy castle hahahahaha....

Super successful day, thanks to Chris for the rear tires, and to Daniel with the skyline [which btw was doing 2wd shakedowns on 7 psi and trapped 115..].

So there you have it lol. And yes, that MUCH fuel pressure in order to keep a/f in check at 19 psi on this little IHI turbo... makes me wonder what I am making Hp wise. Cals are saying 314 and 317 HP.. wow..

Just thought i'd post this because it seemed like for a while the 2.3 set was booming out here then just died out??

Thanks man, ya we were pretty surprised to say the least. Gonna wait till we get a 65* day/eve and go back spraying the I/C to see if I can squeak a high 12.40 out of it.. In the process of selling this house [STILL............................] so we can head that way, so new turbo is not int he budget right now, besides, this ended up being a LOT of fun... To launch I just mat the gas on the 2nd yellow from an idle and at the last yellow and about 5500 im making 19 psi with the clutch still in, then I just let er out and rip the gears haha.
